Funeral Service’s Innovative IT Takes On Competition
An IT innovation has given the edge to a traditional family-run funeral service - helping avoid embarrassing misunderstandings over orders.
Support service Kimbley IT introduced Google Apps to enable Black Country-based Ashcroft Funerals to meet competitors head-on.
Birmingham-based Kimbley IT support service has put Ashcroft Funerals in High Street, Walsall Wood into the 21st century with cloud computing, which enables them to securely access their emails and calendar appointments - wherever they are.
James Kimbley, of Kimbley IT, said: "Two of Ashcroft Funerals’ employees are mobile-based so are rarely in the office. They need to be able to received detailed information about their work schedule."
Additionally, Ashcroft Funerals designs and manufactures headstones: cloud computing allows them to send photos of the headstones to the client to view and sign off securely and quickly. Once the headstone has been placed at the graveyard a photo can be sent to the client and the office, to sign off or make any minor adjustments before the family visits.

Google Apps is a cost effective form of cloud computing allowing an employee to access business data and software, anywhere and on any internet-connected device. It is more secure, and cheaper to maintain than a traditional small business server, and is always running the latest software version without costly upgrades.

James added: “People are surprised that such a traditional business as a funeral parlour is so switched on to IT, but it gives them the edge they need.”
