Everyone hates taking meeting notes; with Google Meet, you don't need to!

Before the pandemic meeting took place in the physical world, you and your team crammed into a hot and sweaty meeting room, sat around a table, waiting for "Last minute Lenny" to arrive - always late. You then have a chat for ten minutes while the meeting organiser attempts to their screen up. And some poor plonker is nominated by their manager to take notes of what is being discussed - to type up and email out to all attendees!

Everything has changed now with video calls, and the good news is video call based meetings are here to stay. None of the inefficiencies described above occurs in a video meeting. Generally, all attendees are present within a couple of minutes of the call starts. The general pre-meeting chit chat has vanished, with attendees getting the meat and bones of the meeting almost immediately - making the whole process of gathering and making decisions more efficient.

However! Often there will be attendees busily looking down, taking notes of what is being discussed. If you are looking down taking notes, you're not focusing or participating as much as possible during the meeting.

That is why at Kimbley IT, we have a "no notes" policy - absolutely no one attending one of our video call meetings, be they work for us or are external, are allowed to take notes. Instead, we use the record functionality in Google Meet; this takes a recording of the whole meeting - no matter its length and automatically stores a copy of the meeting in Google Drive for participants to view and review after the meeting.

Recording the video call lets everyone on the video call entirely focus on what is being said, participate, and generate spontaneous ideas, which is only possible if you are IN the video call and not distracted note-taking.
