How you can take the perfect screenshot of a YouTube video.

Screenshotting YouTube videos can be tricky as, as soon as you roll over the video to snip out the section you want to screenshot, the video control appears, and the edges of the video get a vignette effect applied.

A new feature in Google Chrome makes it easy to screenshot online videos. This feature lets you get full video-size screenshots with the video controls and any other overlays removed by simply capturing the frame you want.

Once you have captured the frame you want, you can paste it anywhere, just as you would with an image. So, if you have just watched a video on YouTube and want to share an image with the team through Gmail or Google Chat, you can now.

The process of screenshotting a YouTube video

  • Head over to YouTube and the video you want to screenshot.

  • Pause the video on the frame you want to capture.

  • Double-right-click on the video and select "Copy video frame" or “Save video frame”.

  • Paste that frame just as you would with an image.
