How to schedule an email to get sent later in Gmail

With Gmail, you can schedule a new email or a reply to get sent at a future time. This handy feature lets you compose your message while it is fresh in your mind and then have that email sent at the appropriate time in the future.

For example, I have a subscription service that I know will auto-renew in two months, but I have to email within 30 days of the end date to prevent the auto-renewal from occurring. With Gmail, all I do is compose the email now while it is on my mind and schedule the email to get sent within the final 30 days of the subscription.

Likewise, if you are sending an email to someone in a different time zone and want to ensure they receive it at a convenient time, you can schedule the email to be sent at a specific time suitable for the recipient.

Additionally, scheduling emails can help you manage your time more effectively by allowing you to plan when you want to send your emails and free up time in your schedule for other tasks.

To schedule an email

Compose your email as you usually would. Remember to add the subject and recipient.

  • After you have written your email, click the down arrow on the "Send" button.

  • Select "Schedule Send". A pop-up window will appear where you can select the date and time for your email to get sent.

  • The email will be saved under the "Scheduled" label in your Gmail account and sent at the specified date and time.

  • If you want to cancel or change the send date, you can open the email from inside the "Scheduled" label.

The same applies to replies. Once you have composed your reply, click the arrow next to the send button to schedule when your response should get sent.

Likewise with replies, once you have composed your reply, click the arrow next to the send button to schedule when your response should get sent.
