How to quickly open a CSV file using Google Sheets

CSV files are one of the most common file formats used to export data. It is also one of the most frustrating files to open. Windows will tend to open the file in Notepad if you don't have Excel installed - and Excel costs money to use.

Google Sheets, however, is an alternative way to view, edit and use a CSV file. There are a couple more clicks involved but is pretty easy to open a CSV file in Google Sheets.

  • Upload your CSV file to Google Drive

  • Double click on the CSV file once it is uploaded

  • A preview of your CSV file will appear

  • At the top of the preview select "Open with"

  • Then select "Google Sheets"

  • Your CSV file will now open in Google Sheets
