How to mute Google Chat notifications

When you are "in the zone" focusing on your work you probably don't want to be interrupted by "ding and dongs" and chat windows popping up on your screen from Google Chat.

In a previous post, we have shown you how you can mute specific users and chat rooms in Google Chat. In this post, we will show you how you can completely mute all Google Chat notifications in one fell swoop!

  • Open Gmail

  • In the top right click "Active."

  • Select "Do not disturb" to turn notifications off for a set period.

  • Select "Away" to appear offline permanently to others.
