Yes, you can use Gmail when you're offline!

Gmail is an entirely online email service you access through the app on your mobile or web browser. However, both the mobile app and the web app support access when you don't have an internet connection.

The mobile app has this support turned on by default and lets you access your last 30 days of emails - you can increase the number of days in the apps setting. The web app does not have offline access turned on by default, and you need to turn it on.

How to turn on offline access in Gmail:

  • Login into Gmail

  • Click the Settings cog in the top right

  • Then select See all settings

  • Go to the Offline tab in the settings area

  • Tick the tick box to enable Offline mail

    • You can select how many days of emails you'd like access too

    • You can select if you'd also like to have access to attachments

  • Click Save Changes

Once Gmail has reloaded, offline email access will be enabled on your account. So the next time you are offline, and you go to Gmail your inbox will load up where you can read emails you received before going offline and compose replies and new emails that will automatically be sent when your connectivity returns.

If you travel a lot for business - offline Gmail is very handy! But did you know you can also access all your documents and calendar events while you are offline - you can even join a video call without data connectivity!
