Fix For “Location Not Available” in Google Drive.
I am surprised it has taken me this long to write a blog post and provide a guide on fixing the "Location Not Available" error in Google Drive for Desktop, as it is one of the more common errors that gets mentioned to us.
Typically, this problem occurs when the Google Drive for Desktop program has been updated, but for some reason or another, the app has not restarted after the update. So when you go to access Google Drive in File Explorer or Finder, an error dialogue box will appear: "Location Not Available."
How do you fix the Location Not Available error?
The simplest way to fix the "Location Not Available" error in Google Drive is tech support's favourite—reboot your computer! That will nearly always fix this problem. And if you're like most people, you won't have restarted your computer in days, so a reboot gives the system a nice refresh—it frees up resources and installs any other updates waiting.
Remember to give your computer a few minutes after the reboot so Drive for Desktop and complete updating and start-up. If you open it too quickly after the computer has restarted, the app might not have had enough time to start up and connect to your Google Workspace account. You'll get the same error message, so give it a minute or two before trying to access Google Drive.
On rare occasions, the reboot may not fix the issue; in these cases, find the Google Drive app in your Start Menu on Windows or your Applications folder on Mac and click the program to start it. Give it a minute or two, and then try accessing your Google Drive—it should be fixed.
